Business Class vs First Class: What's Actually Different?
Modern business class has absorbed most of what made first class special, lie-flat beds, direct aisle access, fine dining. What remains in first is space, privacy, ground service and scarcity. Understanding the real differences tells you when first class is worth the premium and when it isn't.
The verdict
On most airlines, business class is the rational buy, the sleep experience is now equivalent. Pay for first when it's a genuine suite product (Emirates 777 'game-changer', Singapore Suites, ANA The Suite, La Première), when you value dedicated ground handling, or when a negotiated first fare lands within 25% of business.
